"Adventure in the Garden"

Courage at the start was Scruff

As stubborn as I could bear

At times he looked like a minke muff

And all I could do was stare.

He loved tall foxtail

Caught up in his fur.

And after summer would sail,

Far away, he’d look like a little burr.

I had the swirl and ache

Of baths with him in summer

That afterward we’d shake

And the water flung would take cover

I crave him now and again

When I pass by spots he used to lay

I feel my heart with its mournful strain

Of places he used to always invade.

I know he’s somewhere better.

Having adventures in the Garden.

And some day I will meet my Maker,

And have my own adventures in Heaven
